JeffCon 2009: Approaching Outer Marker

Snipped from my post to the Facebook page:

I can finally announce a long-awaited feature - prizes! Each day, there will be a Go Jeff GoH (Guest of Honor) event. For each event, there will be a prize T-Shirt naming the wearer as one of the generic types of gamer. I'm only spoiling the back of the shirt now - which is up in the pictures. Check it out!

Go Jeff GoH Video Game Friday: Super Smash Brothers Brawl tournament (basically unlimited)
Go Jeff GoH Board Game Saturday: Android (five players, Jeff running the game)
Go Jeff GoH Role-Playing Sunday: Jeff Runs Paranoia (for six players)
(or, in contingency, Jeff runs emergency Amber)

In addition, let's remind people of the Saturday breakfast at Walker's - which I think will be meeting at the Lake Zurich Walker's at 9AM. We *might* try for a second breakfast at Sweet Tomatoes Schaumburg, depending on mood and availability.

JeffCon 2009 - 1st Entry, Nearly-The-Last Entry

I will primarily be using Facebook to organize JeffCon this year. I will put at least one more entry here for planning for people who aren't on or willing to join Facebook - but the event scheduling tools there are stronger.

Second Ping: JeffCon 2008

Well, in reviewing the posts (and remembering that NEITHER weekend is Memorial Day weekend), it seems easier to slate JeffCon 2008 for the later of the two weekends. (Andy and Betty, I know your June schedule is rather hosed - treat this at least then as something that won't be chomping for attention.) So, that is 98% official:

Friday, June 6 through Sunday, June 8

The general agenda is well-known: Friday has a non-binding request to play at least one round of Super Smash Brawl, and an additional request for first-timers to advance to Level 1 JeffCon Attendee. (Those who've been here before, but not last year, may also qualify.) After the Brawl gets tiresome (and it does get tiresome after a while, even to me), Wii Sports and other games can go on the TV, and miscellaneous board games can be brought out.

Saturday is all board games, all the time. Video gaming and some computer gaming can be had, but it's primarily a day for board gaming. (I may choose to run MegaMunchkin.) Dinner is my family's fabulously meaty-spicy spaghetti with garlic bread, cupcakes for dessert. There are preliminary plans in place for a host's game of Doomtown.

Sunday is more of the more, but in addition, there is a potential to establish an RPG session one-shot tradition, to follow in the giant steps of Noel's 7th Sea game last year. (Oh, the fond memories of dressing up a zweihander as a Christmas tree.) I might be able to write up a Paranoia game, but I make no guarantees.

Comments? Suggestions? General non-poke-in-the-eye feedback? Inquiring minds want to know.

First Ping: JeffCon 2008

Okay, I like to book early - so it's that time of year again. I'd like to know which of the weekends would be more preferred for JeffCon 2008: This Time, There WILL Be Brawl. We gots two fundamental options:

Friday, May 30 through Sunday, June 1
Friday, June 6 through Sunday, June 8

Please comment below, first to indicate if either date is a solid NO, then which date is a better YES. If you don't have an LJ account, please sign yer goshfershluggina name. :)

Oh, and think something cute about Snacky Smores.

(Topic last seen here.)

The date has been officially set as May 25-27th, 2007. Starts out on Friday after work and goes until seven hours before I have to go back to work, essentially - I forget if that's Monday or Tuesday. More news later. :D

If you're here reading this, you're pretty much invited. It's random gaming on an awesome scope, with the last chance ever to get in on the Friday Super Smash Brothers Melee matches! (Next year, it'll be Super Smash Brothers Brawl.) Sunday may or may not have a RPG session, depending on if anyone feels generous. (Though Dieter Dieter is available. :D )

And again, your presence is your presents, to mistense the verb. The time you spend with me celebrating and gaming and talking is all the gift I need or want.

There IS room at the inn for out-of-towners. I've got some space here, I can probably put some up at my family's place just up Rand, and there are a few friends locally who might make space available. Have no fear just because you live a ways away.

Please list here what days, if any, you can attend. For those unfortunate enough not to have an LJ account, please tag your reply with a name I know. :)

First Ping: JeffCon '07

I'm starting to schedule my birthday party for 2007. Originally there was talk of Memorial Day Weekend, but it looks like I'm headed down to Saint Louis to attend Markis' graduation. So we are left with:

Early: May 25-27.
Late: June 8-10.

For the uninitiated, JeffCon is basically boardgaming and other-gaming for 2.5 days over at my place. We had enough room last year to accommodate most of the guests, so I'm probably going to be more open to inviting anyone who can pretty much see this. The traditional scheduling:

Friday evening: Super Smash Brothers Melee (which I hope to be Super Smash Brothers Brawl instead), and then random boardgames
Saturday: Gaming all day and a nice spaghetti dinner
Sunday: Gaming and perhaps someone running a one-shot RPG game (not Noel, as she ran last time)

I'd like to hear preferences for weekends, whether or not you'd like to run something actiony (7th Sea, Deadlands, Shadowfist, Feng Shui, certain kinds of Exalted), and so on. And remember, your presence is your presents. No gifts required - just time spent having a good time.

One Month's Notice, More Or Less

Okay, folks, based on a preliminary sounding from Brian and others, I have the following to announce:

My Birthday Party, One Week Early

Starting Time: Friday, May 26th, about 7PM
Ending Time: Well, Whenever - But Monday, May 29th would be a good time to consider leaving

Scheduled Events:

Friday, May 26th, 7PM - the traditional session of Smash Mario Brothers Melee
Saturday, May 27th, 5PM - the traditional spicy meat-laden spaghetti sauce dinner
Sunday, May 28th, 5PM - going out to dinner en masse somewhere

The rest of the time: Gaming, and maybe some random work if my den isn't up to shape yet :D

Anyone is welcome to say hello and drop in a bit - but spaghetti sauce will be limited in supply to prioritize in favor of anyone to whom I either personally speak or email (as opposed to this, a broad communique). And another note - this is a dry party, as always. BYO-whatever except booze. And also also, I never ask for gifts to be brought - your PRESENCE are all the presents I would wish for.

Please say 'yea' or 'nay' here (and rebound the 'yea' or 'nay' of the un-LJ-bound), so I can start planning how many to feed. There is a fair amount of bedding available (two bunk-beds, a futon, two couches, and a fair chunk of floor space with a goodly amount of blankets and an air mattress or two. Priority given to out-of-towners over people too tired to drive (though the latter will be given every available consideration).

And yes, I know that Memorial Day is odd - but Brian's missed the last two parties, and he's not available in June, so he gets priority. Let the chips (and dip) fall where they may.

(Oh, and the actual birthday is June 3rd, 1970. That's right - as of a scant month and a half, people who were born when I was legally able to smoke will be legally able to smoke.)

SIIIIIGH.

Eat Snacky Smores - Now in Nostalgic 7-Up Gold Flavor.
