Discharge Day Goes Smoothly )

I think next week part-time work will be possible - and maybe I'll host next Thursday's gaming. Lemme get acclimated first, folks. :)

The Day Before

Everything is completely on-target for tomorrow's discharge. I've got my own wheelchair now (or rather, my rental), my own walker, a letter from Dr. Chen for work, and all the material I need to keep up with exercises at home.

Last Day of In-Patient Therapy )

I may or may not make it upstairs tomorrow, so if I don't, I won't be online until my brother shows up on Friday. But in that case, I can certainly get a phone post up from...my...HOUSE! Wowzers! It's darn near been a month.

Monday: The Grind Continues

Monday, and Back to Hard Therapy )

The Wednesday discharge date is holding - I had two short conferences with the discharge office rep today. Discharge time is 10AM - if all goes well, I'll be back at home by noon! (More likely 1PM.)

Sundays Remain Boring

Woke up, ate, did a half-hour of exercises, watched a bit of TV (Maaaaan, there is nothing on for Sunday) and now I'm 'netting. The afternoon promises pretty much the same.

Lah-lah lah-lah. :D

"Doesn't ANYONE want to use my knife?"

First, the shouts out to Matt for his card and ESPECIALLY to Kathy for her care package. A pen-and-pencil set, two collections of puzzles, and an electronic Yahtzee game! Whooo-hoo! Played that bad boy as soon as Mom and Dad left. Thanks, Kathy-Joe-Joe. It's really coool.

Jeff Has A Good Laugh )

I'll write another entry soon, but the Life Center is closing. (I SWEAR one time it was open until 7PM. I think they changed it. Jerks.)

The Weekend is Ho-Hum

Mom and Dad visited Friday, and Myra has visited yesterday and today. I got two class-group therapy sessions yesterday, but none scheduled for today, so I'll be doing three half-hour sessions on my bed.

Incidentally, the RIC phone system has been screwy all weekend. If you want to call, best odds are to FIRST call 1-312-238-7401, but then to call 1-312-238-1000 (the RIC operator) and ask for Room 740, Bed 1.

Update from the RIC - and a minor scare

Greetings, fellows and friends alike!

Thursday: Progress and A Little Paranoia )

Friday: The 'Rents! )

The meeting to determine my discharge date is next Wednesday, and I'll post it as soon as I get it. There's a branch of the RIC next to my work (and I mean right next to it), so I'll get outpatient therapy there. I've improved every day, and the therapists are quite pleased. (Indeed, based on my abilities, the main physical therapist I work with [Emily Watson] is essentially a trainee, with the 'assistant' [Stephanie] using this opportunity to train her. I'm okay with it, though, as she's nice, positive and knows her stuff.

So I won't be in the room then, natch. :)

Update from the FREAKING RIC WEB STATION!

Ladies and gentlemen, while I'm not back back, I will be online now from time to time! Wheee!

Go Heavily )

My First Day at RIC )

Wednesday: I *walked* )

Again - I want to thank EVERYONE for their kindness, their best wishes, and their prayers. I am recovering quite well, and the assistant to Dr. Chen said on Tuesday that she figured I'd be here for a week or perhaps two, but no more. I'll be here once or twice a day to check in. (I don't want to overdo hanging out on the web, as it's not terribly conducive to doing leg exercises.)

Again, the phone number is 1-312-XXX-7401. I think the XXX is 538, but I'll make sure later. (Gotta get my notepad unpacked.) But the place is Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago, and it's the 7th Floor, Room 40, Bed 1. Visiting hours are 8AM to 8PM, and while I'm a good hike away from people now, anyone who wanted to show up would be welcome.

Jeff Gets Admitted and Operated On )

I've heard that a lot of people have posted on the Journal, on the Mur list, on the Game RPG board, etc., to wish me well. I want to thank all of them, I'm feeling pretty good. I may be seeing a couple of friends tonight coming in to play a game, but tomorrow they're going to take me downtown more than likely, so it'll become more difficult for people to come to see me. But I'll put more contact information up as it becomes available and Chris will keep you posted.

Thank you VERY much. Byebye.

[Transcriber's note: Chris Bailey will be providing updates when possible.]
